MCS Educational Trust Major Works

MCS (Secondary Section) Renovated Staffrooms
Phase 1 – Jockey Club Wing 2nd Floor

The Renovated Staffrooms came with government-funded fixtures e.g. the cupboards, side seats and countertop, and glass partitions. The Trust funding helped to provide for above-standard items not provided by the government. All teachers can now have ergonomic furniture (workstations) in the Renovated Staffrooms, new tables and chairs for the pantry. The school can then provide comfortable work and rest areas for our staff members with the funding topped up by the Ed Trust. We are most grateful that the funding was donated in memory of our two beloved former teachers from the Secondary Section – Ms Nancy Yu and Ms Edith Wong.
MCS (Primary Section) Renovated Staff Rooms 1, 2 & 3
The MCS Educational Trust has supported the renovation of the three staff rooms. The work was completed in January 2022. The aim is to provide the teaching staff with a healthier and refreshing workplace.

2019

STEM Room (Primary Section)

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education through inquiries, explorations and analysis, has become an important part of learning science and technology. The STEM Room, located at basement of the New Wing of Primary Section, celebrated its official opening with Sr. Jeanne from New York. MCS Former Students’ Association donated over 1 million to Educational Trust, in support of both hard and soft ware of the project.

Digital Music Room (Primary Section)

Situated beside the STEM Room is a brand new Digital Music Room where students will learn music through hi-tech applications and equipment.  The generous support of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Tsang have made their contribution of 1 million to Educational Trust. Primary Section organized a joyous Opening Celebration in January 2019 with all staff, students, friends and family of Maryknoll.

2018

Domestic Science Room (Secondary Section)

A full scale renovation of the DS Room was kicked off by the generous donation of over 2 million by Ms. Bonnie Chan, year of 1986.  It all started when Bonnie visited our school at Homecoming Pun Choi lunch in 2017.  The project, completed in October same year, included redesign of room with all new fixtures from equipment, furniture and fittings.

1998

Primary Jockey Club Wing (Primary Section)

Aided by funds from the Jockey Club, the Trust converted the former Regional House, generously donated by the Maryknoll Sisters, into spacious facilities for the Primary School.

The school began operating as a whole-day school with fifteen additional classrooms, an Assembly Room/Chapel, a canteen, staff rooms and various other rooms.

1995

Secondary Jockey Club Wing (Secondary Section)

The first major work of the Trust, supported generously by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, was completed in 1994. It provides eight classrooms, a spacious staff room and conference rooms, a prayer room, a music room and rooms for student activites.

2019

A very quiet year for the Fund, perhaps due to the cancellation of many of the interschool competitions in the second half of the year.
2018

The highlight of 2018 was undoubtedly sponsoring overseas events. Early in the year, the primary section sent a dance team, the winner of the local competition, to Taiwan to participate in the international finale. During the summer, the handball team of the secondary section took part, also in Taiwan, in an international training and competition camp. Both teams, for their impeccable behaviour, did us proud.

2017 This year, the Fund pledged six annual scholarships to each of the primary and secondary sections to be awarded to athletes the school deems worthy.
2016

In 2016, the Fund had a major boost of a donation from Relay for Love. Besides the run of the mill recurring expenses, it sponsored the gymnastics team of the secondary section to acquire a batch of eye-catching leotards to be used as uniform in competition only.

2015

The Sports Fund was established in August 2015 to encourage participation in sports outside of the school curriculum to enhance whole-person development. It aims to benefit elite as well as potential athletes.

In its first year of establishment, funds were used to sponsor the purchase of equipment, hiring coaches and renting practice venues. These have become the main areas of recurring expenses for the Fund.

The MCS Arts and Music Fund ( the “Fund”) is set up in 2019 as part of the Maryknoll Convent School (“MCS”) Educational Trust (the “Trust”) which aims at supporting arts, music and creative related activities (“related activities”) that have not yet been funded otherwise, but will benefit the current students of MCS.

2022
School Choir practices (Primary Section)
Formed by a team of 43 students of Primary Two and Three, the School Choir was led by the conductor through hybrid mode of lessons (physically and virtually) this year. Two performances were arranged in the post-exam period and before the Christmas break for the choir members to demonstrate their singing talent and to share music with their schoolmates. These remarkable performance recordings have been posted to the school’s music website, ‘Power of Music’, for spreading the love of music to the school community.

Music workshops at the Digital Music Club (Primary Section)

Students have shown great interests in creating their own music with the music app ‘GarageBand’. They participated actively in the lessons and were eager to explore new elements while composing their own songs.  Their beautiful music pieces are on the ‘Power of Music’ website for music appreciation of their schoolmates.  Members would also be chosen as the Digital Music Ambassadors in the coming academic year for promoting Digital Music in class and during lunchtime.

2021
Art Room Furniture and Equipment (Secondary Section)
Students and Teachers concerned can have suitable furniture and equipment (including tables, easels and picture frames) for the two art rooms.  Picture frames were used for the latest Art Exhibition in the Foyer Art Gallery.  Students are able to enhance their learning in the subject with the new furniture and equipment.
School Choir practices (Primary Section)
The school choir was under the excellent guidance of the conductor via virtual and physical lessons.  Melodious virtual choir practice was recorded and shared with their schoolmates on the ‘Power of Music’ website.
2020
Music course for Digital Music Team (Primary Section)
Ten young talented musicians from Primary Five to Primary Six joined together to form the Digital Music Team.  This programme aimed at their interest and creativity in making digital music under the guidance of professional musicians in Hong Kong – Mr Chiu Tsang Hei and Ms Dawn Li.  With strong music background and passion for making music, the girls gathered to learn how to make music using new technologies in a modern and fun approach.
